Message from the Superintendent of Schools

Dear Parents/Caregivers of GYPSD Students:
As of this afternoon, March 15, 2020, the Chief Medical Officer of Alberta has directed the cancellation of classes in k-12 and post-secondary institutions.
All classes within Grande Yellowhead Public School Division are cancelled - effective immediately and until further notice.  Do not send your children to school.  All buses are cancelled.  All school buildings are closed to students and community.

Minister LaGrange has announced that she will be sending an open letter to all parents in which she and her team will have considered responses to questions all parents and school jurisdictions are asking at this time. In a letter  to school boards, following her press conference this afternoon, the minister stated the following:
"We expect every student to receive a final mark and that students will progress to their next grade level next year. However, provincial assessments, such as provincial achievement tests will be cancelled as of this time. Diploma exams essential for post-secondary acceptance will continue. We are confident that every student who is eligible to graduate from Grade 12 this year will graduate. Staff will be expected to attend school to prepare on how to deliver learning for students."
We will continue to seek details. As we get more information, we will let you know. The most up-to-date information on the COVID-19 situation in Alberta can be found on alberta.ca

Respectfully,

Board Chair Brenda Rosadiuk and Superintendent Carolyn Lewis.
